optislim vlcd soups side effects

optislim-vlcd-soups-side-effectsWanna lose weight?  Don’t mind starving yourself if you get results?  I never used to.  Until my husband threatened to divorce me.  He got fed-up with me sulking when I couldn’t eat what the rest of the family was having!

Optislim is a program that offers very low calorie soups, shakes and meal bars to replace your meals.  They range from 200-350 calories each and are guaranteed to leave you hungry–and skinnier–if you can stick with it.

Optislim’s soups come in three varieties.  Here is all the information I could gather on them:

  • Nutritionally Complete
  • Delicious flavours and taste
  • 3 Varieties Creamy Chicken, Pumpkin & Tomato
  • Can be used in conjunction with Optislim® VLCD Shakes and Bars
  • 7 sachets per pack
  • Australian Made

I think the deal maker for me was “Australian made.”  After all the Aussies can be trusted to make a mean soup. (Yes, that was sarcasm.)

The Optislim program runs on the premise that you follow one of three extremely low calorie programs.  I call them “suicide programs” because diets like these make me crazy!  Here they are:

ACCELERATED PROGRAM: for the strongest-willed amongst you.  Only 800 calories a day.  You replace all meals with either a soup, shake or meal bar.  Good luck to you.

RAPID PROGRAM: for those of you who want to lose weight quickly but aren’t quite as loony.  Only 1000 calories a day.  You replace two out of three meals with either soups, shakes or bars.

BALANCED PROGRAM: far more realistic–providing the meals you eat are healthy and well-balanced.  You are replacing only one meal a day with a soup, shake or meal bar on this program and are consuming around 1300-1500 calories a day.  You will lose a lot more slowly, but may keep your sanity.

Optislim VLCD Soups Ingredients

Optislim fails to offer ingredient information for any of their product line.  Even though they state their products are “nutritionally complete” with “25 vitamins and minerals (if you consume 3 sachets a day)”, it’s hard to judge when you can’t see for yourself what’s in them.

Me no likey.

Optislim VLCD Soups Side Effects

What side effects come with extreme hunger?  Let’s see:

  • Fatigue
  • Headaches
  • Digestive problems including constipation
  • Hunger pains
  • Dizziness
  • Bad breath

and my number one favorite…

  • Irritability

Divorce could also be a side effect.

Optislim advises anyone buying their products to have a full medical check up prior to starting their program.  They also want you to regularly see your physician throughout.

Do not use if you have a history of heart disease or high blood pressure, or are pregnant or nursing.  You can use if you’re diabetic, but shouldn’t without first consulting your physician.

Does Optislim VLCD Soups Work Well Enough to Buy?

The soups are expensive at $18.90 plus shipping for 7 sachets.  If you eat only one a day, that’s a week’s supply.  Add to it the cost of the other Optislim products you’re going to need to purchase to participate in the Optislim program, and it’s going to be an investment.

No doubt about it, you’ll lose weight.  But you have to be a certain type of individual to persist on an extreme low calorie program like Optislim.  Like “desperate”, “insane” or “iron-willed.”

Once upon a time I counted myself as belonging to two of those three groups (excluding the latter.)

These days I like being married.

Good luck.
