Somesta

Somesta is widely available online, and is not primarily a diet pill, but is a sleeping aid. Sleep deprivation is a major problem for many people around the world, and can have numerous detrimental effects on the human body and mind. This is an all-natural supplement, and it appears to fight insomnia and the effects. The Newton-Everett website claims that lack of sleep can cause:
- Depression and Anxiety
2. Delayed Reflexes
3. Mental and Physical Exhaustion
4. Slower metabolism
5. Slow recovery from infections and diseases
6. Depressed immune system
7. Decreased attention span
8. Irritability
Now, I will be the first one to tell you that I agree with that list. I think that most people would agree that a lack of sleep can cause some, or all of the listed symptoms. This being said, I don’t know how effective the ingredients in Somesta are in fighting insomnia. They look like many of the ingredients in many of Newton-Everett’s diet pills. However, the unique ingredient in Somesta is L-Tryptophan, which is essentially the same ingredient that you will get in Turkey following a Thanksgiving meal.

L-Tryptophan is a popular sleeping aid. The FDA banned L-Tryptophan in 1991 but restrictions were loosened in 2001. The FDA still issued this warning: “Based on the scientific evidence that is available at the present time, we cannot determine with certainty that the occurrence of EMS in susceptible persons consuming L-tryptophan supplements derives from the content of L-tryptophan, an impurity contained in the L-tryptophan, or a combination of the two in association with other, as yet unknown, external factors.” PLEASE CONSULT A PHYSICIAN BEFORE CONSUMING. Some people have died as a result of taking L-Trytophan.
Does Somesta work well enough to buy?
There certainly appears to be some benefits of taking the supplement, but at what cost? Be sure to look up the Wikipedia article on “Trytophan” to read of the potential dangers of consuming Somesta, as well as the history behind the FDA ban and loosening of restrictions. In my opinion it sounds far too risky to consume. For the same natural, and safer effect, be sure to eat more turkey!
